A Travel Guide to Idaho

Idaho is the 43rd state of the USA. It lies nestled in the northwesterly area between the states of Washington and Oregon to its left and to the right the states of Montana and Wyoming. The way it sits in the uppermost west is analogous to a curious child sitting on the floor, above Nevada and Utah below, with an eager hand reaching to the Canadian province of British Columbia.

Idaho is a big state, and it has been said that if you flattened all their mountains it would be the size of Texas. Over one hundred mountain ranges laced with over three thousand miles of water network comprising of rivers, lakes and falls. Boise is the capital of this mountainous state and lies itself along the Oregon Trail: a trail originally set by the early trappers and traders, later widened to allow the influx of migrants travelling via wagons. Nowadays hikers and horseback riders frequently enjoy it.

To the North lies the Nez Perce Indian Reservation and its National Park that celebrates the tall Indians of the same name that used to hunt and fish in the area. It details their way of life, and their aptitude with animals that helped them to become more than capable horse whisperers. There are several wild horse species now that exist in North America since its introduction by the Spanish Conquistadors. The horses’ welfare is overseen by the US Department and can be adopted by visitors. There are also facilities in some places to rent the use of a horse. Ideal for following the paths left behind by the Lewis and Clark Trail and as mentioned above the Oregon Trail.

The featured places already referred to are but a mere fragment of what exists here. There are many more parks including that of the globally known Yellowstone National Park. There are wildlife centres/refuges that care for indigenous and migrated species of animals and birds. The latter including birds of prey and other species of birds that have adopted the Craters of the Moon National Monument as their habitat. There are also recreation parks and naturally with so much water it leans itself favourably towards fishing, kayaking and canoeing, sailing and even swimming: with such wonderful back drops it makes them all a pleasurable and soothing experience. For the hardy and robust adventurers, naturalists and scientists, there are the mountains, which include a generous portion of the Rockies. A challenge for the hiker who wants more than just a walk and the endurance testing limits of the rock climber scaling the panoramic heights.

There are many types of vacation homes available in Idaho ranging from houses and condos in the larger cities and the capital Boise, to log cabins in the mountains or/and overlooking the lakes or rivers. Many homes are spacious including the popular log cabins and many vacation homes come outfitted with all and often more amenities than you would expect.

The breath-taking splendour of Idaho is better explained in their own words – that of their anthem – “Here Comes Idaho”.
